When does cursive
make sense?

Most children who can print legibly are ready for cursive around ages 7–9. The earlier barrier isn't age — it's pencil control: if a child can stay on the baseline and make consistent letter heights in print, connected letters are the natural next step.

Names are the right place to start here, too. “Signing your name in cursive” is still a concrete, meaningful milestone — and a child who can write their own name in cursive will practice far longer than one doing drills on random words.

The style here is traditional US school cursive: connected strokes, correct entry and exit angles, and the same three-line guide ruling as the print worksheets — so practice at home maps to what most US elementary curricula still teach.

Questions about cursive

Does it work with accent marks, hyphens, and apostrophes?
Yes — María, Zoë, François, Mary-Kate, and O'Brien all render correctly in cursive. If a character can't be drawn in the cursive style, the generator tells you which one instead of printing a broken sheet.
What's the difference between the print and cursive generators?
The print generator uses Andika — an OFL-licensed education font with clear, separated letterforms designed for early readers. The cursive generator uses Playwrite US Traditional — traditional US school cursive with connected strokes and correct entry and exit angles. Both use the same three-line school ruling.
Is it safe to type my student's name here?
The worksheet is generated entirely in your browser. Names you type are never sent to a server, stored, or shared — you can verify it in your browser's network tools: no requests are made as you type.
Can I print cursive worksheets on A4?
Yes. Choose A4 in the paper options and the sheet is laid out for A4 dimensions with no cut-off margins when printing outside the US.
